About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Controls Management Senior Manager to support the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) Chief Risk Officer (CRO) organization in Corporate Risk. The Business Control Management Team is responsible for partnering with their relevant business group to develop and maintain a strong control environment leading to the early identification and sustainable mitigation of operational risk. These responsibilities include Risk Identification & Assessment, Control Design & Evaluation, Issues & Control Deficiencies, Control Governance & Reporting, and Control Programs.
The Controls Management Senior Manager actively counsels group leadership on risk and control issues, issue management and remediation and regulatory interactions. They must foster a collaborative environment that ensures timely communication and strong cooperation between this front-line unit and independent risk management under Corporate Risk, and a strong connection with Wells Fargo Audit Services.
The successful candidate for this role is knowledgeable of the inherent risks and control environment for the respective businesses and is forward-looking to identify internal and external risk trends which may present opportunities or cause for concern.
In this role, you will:
- Manage and develop a team of experienced officers and senior specialists in roles with moderate complexity and risk in accomplishing goals and priorities associated with the functional area
- Engage and influence corporate heads, business heads, legal, audit, regulators, and industry partners associated with the function, or who are affected by its outcomes
- Identify and recommend Business Controls opportunities for process improvement and risk control development by managing and directing teams on strategy and execution of activities
- Determine appropriate strategies and actions of Business Controls functional area to meet moderate to high-risk deliverables by ensuring that all business risk issues are proactively identified and addressed appropriately
- Interpret and develop policies and procedures for functions with moderate complexity within defined scope of responsibility
- Collaborate with and influence key stakeholders including managers
- Interact directly with relevant business groups
- Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and aligned with strategic objectives in Business Controls functional area
- Develop and guide a culture of Business Controls talent development to meet business objectives and strategies
- 6+ years of Risk Management or Business Controls experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 3+ years of Management experience
- Manage and develop a team of experienced Lead Control Management Officers and Senior Lead Control Management Specialists, Individual Contributors and/ or cross-functional teams in accomplishing goals and priorities.
- Provide effective coaching, development, and feedback to members of the team to drive successful performance outcomes
- Evaluate and provide strategic guidance for risk and control related activities to the team to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and risk strategies
- Manage communication and collaboration with senior levels of management including business functional leadership within Corporate Risk, Independent Risk Management, and Audit regarding risk management of business-specific risk programs.
- Excellent Communication Skills-Verbal and Written; including ability to tell the full story with a few key pieces of relevant data in a concise way
- Ability to influence and drive initiatives through team members who report to others
- Proficient to advanced understanding of the issue management process
- Strong ability to identify risks requiring controls and demonstrated expertise at designing, implementing and monitoring effectiveness of controls as developed as part of the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment while managing multiple project timelines concurrently
- Demonstrate the ability to make subjective and informed decisions based upon output and justify decision making
- Ability to analyze, problem solve with demonstrated excellence at driving decisions
