Oregon Mutual Insurance Company is seeking a highly motivated, experienced senior accountant who will be responsible for the operation of various financial systems.  In addition, this position will lead the preparation of financial statements, tax provisions and facilitation of independent audits. 

We are seeking an independent thinker who is willing to collaborate and share ideas to make the organization better.  This candidate will have the opportunity to interact with other departments throughout the organization to obtain a holistic view of the company and will be instrumental in transforming the Finance department. Telecommuting or Remote opportunity may be available for the right candidate. 

Minimum Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3-5 years public accounting or similar experience
  • CPA designation or working toward a CPA license
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles
  • Knowledge of statutory accounting principles preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database software products 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintenance and monitoring of enterprise accounting system
  • Coordinate income tax return preparation
  • Prepare and submit various regulatory filings
  • Work with auditors and regulators on specific areas of concern
  • Advise management on issues related to accounting policies and practices
  • Maintain software and spreadsheets used to prepare financial statements
  • Design and maintain cost accounting process
  • Produce internal profitability reports
  • Provide backup to accounting staff 
  • Maintain internal control procedures and checklists
  • Responsible for monthly reconciliations including billing, commissions, payroll and employee benefit plans
